Conversion case study #1: Existing part was a fine blanked part with full radii machined in the “lug” areas as a costly secondary operation. The powdered metal conversion equivalent of this part offered the complete net shape without secondary machining operations, without sacrificing strength, at a tool cost of about ¼ of fine blanking and a part cost savings of about 30%.
